What happens to those who stop finasteride?

Just something I've been thinking about.

What happens to those who have been on finasteride and maintain or regrow for 1yr+?

Obviously, I would expect that they would lose that hair to DHT again, but how quickly?

Also, after all those years of messing with your Endocrine system, wouldn't your body at that time be producing more DHT? Would hair loss be worse after quitting?

Just wondering what you all know or think about that situation.

propecias website says you'll lose what you've maintained or gained over 12 months time.

I'd imagine it'd be pretty quick.

No. You should remember that finasteride works by stopping the bodies ablitiy to produce DHT (i.e. by blocking the enzyme type 2 alpha reductase). Its a common myth that finasteride itself interacts with DHT.

That's not what I was saying.

From my understanding your bodies increase in testoserone levels is from it trying to produce more DHT.

I'm beginning more and more to realize that Propecia is generally accepted as a hair loss drug and most of the people on it don't even know about all of those who have had sides.

I'm still struggling with getting on it or not...

Your body does not "try" or "attempt" to produce more DHT if you take Propecia. Any increase in Testosterone levels while taking Propecia is due to less of it being converted into DHT, NOT because your body increases the production of testosterone.

After taking it for 5 years (with great results), I stopped taking it for 9 months, then started again 3 months ago.

I lost pretty much everything I had gained over those years, although the regrowth pretty much max'd out after two years.

I'm waiting, hoping, and praying it works again for me.

That makes complete sense. What was your final straw in deciding to use finasteride?

Have you ever had bloodwork? How did you feel after coming off (erections, overall well-being, etc.)?

Yup, had bloodwork done after about 4 years on it. Nothing unusual found.

I never noticed any sexual side-effects from taking Propecia, nor any mood differences when I stopped.

The only thing I DID experience a few years into taking it was testicular ache. Very uncomfortable. It went away though after a few months and never returned. Freaked me out until I read that it's a somewhat common side effect. I'm wondering if that'll happen again now that I'm back on it.

If you quit finasteride you´re going to hell in afterlife. Don´t do it, bro.

Thanks for your response. How old were you when you began treatment?
