What happens in the follicles?

What actually happens in the hair follicles that causes them to become weak. Does the dht directly travel up to hair follicle itself or does it send something else or does it cause a chemical reaction that weakens the follicle? What is the actual chemicals itself that is literally attacking the follicle. I keep hearing that there's different chemicals and stuff found on the scalps of bald people, but I don't know what's actually doing the damage. I understand the correlation between dht and the androgens, but what is actually taking place within the follicle?

Androgenic Alopecia is an extremely complex problem. To be basic, all what we know about is that it's a genetic defect where the hair follicles become sensitive to DHT, and then they start to miniaturize. There are other complications, but yes, DHT plays a huge role in Androgenetic Alopecia and it mainly effects men. Androgenetic Alopecia happens to women as well, though the cases for Female Pattern Baldness are less understood and more complex; however, DHT plays a huge role as well.

It's DHT itself that causes miniaturization of the hair follicles. It's been thought if other androgens play a role in Androgenetic Alopecia, though none other one have been proven to do so.

Other complications that happen in a balding scalp are higher levels of:

-Androgen Receptors
-Arachidonic Acid
-Dihydrotestosterone
-DKK1
-Inflammation
-Prostaglandin D2

Those are other complications that happen during Androgenetic Alopecia. Just keep in mind though that DHT is the main problem, and should be battled at the very front.

The key question woul be why only certains scalp hairs become to DHT?

Are genetics diferent scalp hair depending its position?
IMHO all are similar at first...
