I've been on it for 2 years and was doing 1.25 every 2 days with good results. I recently switched to 0.6mg every day do to conflicting results on all of the data on finasteride about it's short half life. Just curious what everyone else is doing and having results with.

Been having results with .5mg. In the Merck trial, .2mg was close to the 1mg dose in terms of effectiveness. .5mg wasn't tested unfortunately but many assume the differences between .5mg and 1mg are nonexistent since .2 and 1mg were comparable in effectiveness

I would not take any lower than 1mg or 1.25mg daily or any higher either

Here is a visual from the Merck trial. As you can see, the difference between .2mg and 1mg is marginal, and could actually save you a lot of money. I actually have been considering dropping down to .25 mg for this reason, although I would need a better pill cutter. There have been a few other studies that show this phenomenon.

Yes I use this to tell people taking a lower dose will not help their sides. I read something about variation in dutasteride dosages and how the dosage causes significant variation in scalp DHT levels. I was wondering if finasteride acts in a similar manner where scalp DHT WILL vary depending on the dose, but serum DHT will not

I don't think there is any water to this theory. If that were the case, the differences in effictiveness between 1mg and 5mg would be substantial when in reality they are on par in terms of effectiveness.

Because they inhibit around the same amount of serum dht give or take

I've noticed Jotronic (who had amazing results with hair transplant procedure with H&W) uses 1/4 of proscar (but every two days!) according to this site: http://hairlosshelp.com/websites/jotronic/ I would like to know is it benefitial to use finasteride every other day because of short half-life time ?

If we split proscar pills, then it is not necessary to take a quarter (1.25 mg)every day, but we can alternate and use it every other day ? I know it would be more effective to take 0.625 mg (1/8) ED then 1.25 EOD but it is very complicated to split one proscar pill into eight equal parts ?

Why not?

Finasteride does not effect scalp DHT levels that much, and it's much too variable to measure. You would want a decrease in follicular DHT levels. In any case, yes it is dose dependent. Up to a point anyway. Which is close to 1 mg.
