What do you pay for dutasteride?

Hi everyone
I got a prescription for finasteride from a doctor and have been taking it for over a year now and feel like its not strong enough and a little to pricey. I currently pay around $60 a month as my insurance doesn't cover it. Someone I know that takes dutasteride and pays far less than what I pay for my finasteride (around $20 a month). It was prescribed to them for off label (obviously) as they do not have BPH and their insurance (which is the same as mine Blue Cross Blue shield) still covers a bulk of the cost.
They got a script from the doctor and pick it up at CVS pharmacy here in New York City. I called the CVS that I get my medication from and asked for a quote and they told me it was $160 a month for generic dutasteride and $210 for brand Avodart (the prices are obviously without insurance).

TLDR:
I was wondering how much you guys pay for dutasteride and does your insurance cover it for off label use? I'd like to get a prescription for it but don't want to pay an absurd amount of money.

Im not really interested in purchasing it online.

I use generic Dutasteride and pay $6 a month for 30 capsules. I think it would be like $200+ without health insurance. Since the drug is only approved for treating an enlarged prostate, insurance covers for it despite that I'm using it for treating my Male Pattern Baldness. Before Dutasteride became available generically, I would be paying $70+ a month for genuine Avodart.

40oz to freedom, I love it. I just got a script from medical wellness center and for .5mg tablets, 90 count (3 month), it would be $180. Not too bad, given i know it's legit dutas. Don't know if i am going to fill it yet, since I had horrible hair loss on finasteride. I am still waiting to see if RU will work a miracle. doubt it.

I'm mostly concerned why you've been paying so much for Finasteride over the last year. If you have a Walmart anywhere in your area, you can get generic finasteride for $9 per 30 5mg pills which I then cut into quarters, so essentially 120 pills for $9, translating to about $30 a year. It's an amazing difference in price and I would encourage you to explore it.

So were you prescribed dutasteride for BPH by your doctor even though you're using it for male pattern baldness? or does insurance just cover it regardless?
Also, if you don't mind me asking what insurance do you have?

I live in NYC no walmarts nearby lol. Also I tried asking my Doctor for 5mg tab script but shes a b**ch and says she cant give it to me because the 5mg tabs aren't approved for male pattern baldness. Im only 21 years old and it was a pain in the *** getting a finasteride script to being with.

Yeah, Sublime is good music, I enjoy listening to them. :hairy:

Seems like Dutasteride + RU58841 will be your best options if Finasteride really didn't go well for your hair. You should do fine on those two treatments, they're pretty strong after all.

I was prescribed Dutasteride off-label for treating my male pattern baldness, but insurance covers it as BPH. I have Moda Health insurance.

I pay £25 for 30 tablets from alldaychemist.

I plan on taking 1 tablet a week and then moving to 2 a week soon.
