What do we know about the perfectly functioning follicle?

Your question reminds me of psychology. Until recently the only focus was on mental illness. Studying the notions of psychological well-being or happiness has quite enlightened the understanding we had of mental suffering.

But to get back to hair loss, first we should define what what a perfectly functionning follicle is. Do follicles from the back and sides are perfectly functionning or are they suffering like balding ones but just much less?

hairs in the "horseshoe" are effected by androgens as well but to a lessor extent.

That gets us back to the question of why there's such a gap like difference. Why would nature program follicles on the galea to be so much more responsive to dht than on the horseshoe?… But that's another thread.
