What could possibly be happening here?

In an experiment I didn't wash my hair for 3 days straight. I noticed throughout this time, any time I ran my hands through my hair or even pulled on it, almost no hair would come out. Then yesterday I wash it and after patting it dry while blow drying on cold air all types of hair came out. How could this be?? The common denominator here is clearly washing my hair, but what part of the process could be responsible - the water, the shampoo, the friction?? I am going mad, I almost want to stop shampooing aside from for special occasions. It is a dramatic increase in hair loss. The good news is I think this would mean the finasteride is working efficiently, no? I would really appreciate any suggestions. What are ingredients in shampoos that could be causing it? I have been using Giovanni's Tea Tree Triple Treat. Could I try using a gentler shampoo? Could it be that the oil build up is holding off hair loss that would take place anyhow, and washing it allows it to come out? Thanks, sorry I'm getting worried.

Most likely the lack of shedding while not washing your hair was simply from...not washing your hair.

I continued to shed hairs after starting finasteride for about 6 months, then it more or less stopped.

People don't go bald from using shampoo. It might cause temporary hair loss on some people who might have allergic reactions of some sort to a chemical in the shampoo, but it has nothing to do with permanent hairloss despite our wishful thinking.

How about Tea Tree - the giovanni? I have read it can be drying. Is this possible? Also, is there any way to shampoo more gently?

If your hair becomes greasy when you don't shampoo it, the sebum can hold hairs in place.

I've never gone 3 days without shampooing my hair so I am a little curious; on the third day of not washing my hair it becomes smelly and greasy. Do you get this too or does it go away after a week or so?
