What causes diffuse thinning?

I have androgenic alopecia, but just recently began noticing my entire head is thinning out. I have been on finasteride for over 3 years, and until recently my sides and back were really thick and bushy, while the top was just holding on enough not to notice if I kept the sides short. It still looks passable, but it is even almost all over and not as thick on the back and sides as it was.

Dude, our male pattern baldness is dictated by our terrific genes to thin at the sides and back as well as the top! :badmood:

No I read it's not genetic -

Diffuse Alopecia:

Diffuse Alopecia is a condition characterized by hair loss over the entire scalp including the sides and back of the head. An example of Diffuse Alopecia is Telogen Effluvium. Many things can cause this, but Diffuse Alopecia is not genetic.

Some possible causes are but not limited to:

* Hormonal changes in the body (thyroid disorders)
* Pregnancy or shortly thereafter
* Certain medications (anticoagulants - blood thinning drugs)
* Scalp determatitus or other inflamation of the scalp
* Severe infections such as pneumonia
* Traumatic Stress (physical or emotional)
* Iron deficiency
