I posted my whole story in the Propecia forum about whether or not I should take it, so I won't repeat that. I've got a prescription and am currently taking .25 mg/day. I've also been using Nizoral 1% off and on for years now, although I'm trying for a constant 2x a week.
Anyway, it's been close to a month and I haven't really noticed any difference. My hair is still thick enough that the loss isn't noticeable, but my hairline has definitely receeded. Here's a pic.
Personally, I'm not counting on regrowth. If it happens it will be great but just to stop the hairloss would be good enough for me.
The bottom line is this: I absolutely cannot go bald. I have a huge, oddly shaped head and I would look absolutely terrible without hair. No Vin Diesel bad *** look for me. Unfortunately, without intervention, it's in my genes to end up atleast a NW5, which is what my dad at 51 is. My brother is 25 with a thinning spot in the back. I don't have any thinning in the crown - just a receding hairline. Which is actually slightly worrying. Back when my hair had barely receded I used to laugh about it with my dad because it hadn't set in how serious it was, and he told me that when he was my age somebody pointed out that he was going bald because
he had a thin spot in the back. And from what I can tell, his hairline is pics was decent even up through his 30's. My brother's hairline seems decent as well because his bangs are much thicker than mine.
So now I'm worried I have a different pattern of baldness than them, maybe inherited from my mom's side. If I had their pattern, I wouldn't worry too much because I'd know that even at 51 I'd still have SOME hair. But there's always the wild card element of there perhaps being some totally bald dudes in my family tree that I don't know about.
But back to the point - if I stay on propecia now, for the rest of my life (or until something better comes along) - what are my chances of keeping my hair? I've already got anxiety/performance issues with sex so less libido/weaker erections doesn't really even phase me - my sex life sucks anyway (although I currently can still get it up without issue)
And furthermore, what are the chances of propecia making hairloss worse? It seems unlikely but I worry about it....
