Went to Dermatologist for the first time and learned a lot

So I finally did it, I talked with a dermatologist. He told me that I have early signs of male pattern baldness and I told him that I had been on Propecia for close to a year. He went through the propecia form which I already had a great knowledge about. I asked about Dutasteride and he said he hadn't heard about it. I asked if I would be a good canidate for rogaine foam and he said that only 1 in 11 get any results from it. I wanted to use it on my temples since they are the only thing receeding.

He told me there wasn't much for hairloss and that I most likely wouldn't regrow much. . kinda killed my self esteem. I have a 3 month checkup scheduled for October. The talk made me think twice about whether to do rogaine foam or not. I have 2 bottles of it that I planned on using. I only used one bottle so far. I'm around a Norwood 2, the guy didn't even know the norwood scale which blew my mind. He has been a dermatologist for 38 years. What do you guys think I should do for my situation? I've been on propecia now about a year? Thanks guys I just felt that I should express my experience. What do you guys think I should do for my situation?

Unless you're really bothered by being a NW2, I would stay on the Propecia. I hope he was talking about rogaine only working for 1/11 on the temples because the efficacy is a lot higher than that. However, it may be less than that on the temples and hair line.

Sounds like your derm doesn't know very much. Par for the course when it comes to hair loss, I'm afraid! Minoxidil could regrow hair at the front for something like 50% of men.

Keep up the foam and Propecia, and add Revita shampoo or Nizoral (2-3 times a week only in the case of the latter). If you really want to go the whole hog when it comes to regrowth, you could trade up to Xandrox 15 and dutasteride at a 2.5mg/day loading dose for 6 months. But this regimen would be highly expensive and you'd be more likely to experience sides, so be very cautious!
