Hi there.

It´s my 1st post here (go figure) and i´m a bit worried that i might lose my hair in some years.

In my family everyone has tick hair and only my grandgrandfather from my mother´s side was bald.

I´m noticing when i put gel or when i take a shower and have wet hair i can see my scalp and i notice in the back that something is different...but strangely when i don´t put gel or pass with my hands through the hair i have a full set of hair. :?

I only lose about 3/6 hair per day when the normal is about 50 and they only fall out when i pass my hands through it...i don´t lose hair not even on the shower.

It sucks starting to worry as i bodybuild to get away from this skinny body of me which has destroyed my confidence and social skills and now i get worried hair thoughts.

Sometimes i think i should shave my hair off,but then women may not like yet and there goes my confidence down the drain.

I shaved my hair once and looked pretty good, but is it the same if that "hole" in the scalp shows up?

Or women just care about hair shaved ?

McFabs... I suggest you should go see a derm for your situation. Maybe if it is male pattern baldness, it looks like you can catch it early and start taking medication for it... or maybe you are just paranoid you will go bald?

Well,i might be paranoid about it...for example i had gel yeasterday and washed my hair to take the spiky look off and i left a bit of gel in the hair.

When i usually do this the next day i can see my scalp on the top near the back of my head.

But as soon as i wash it and dry my hair it looks good :?

Maybe it´s just the effect gel or wet hair does, but yes,i will go to the dermatologist to see what i can do.

it might be the effect of the gel as you dont seem to be losing much hair i would switch from using gel to a putty based styling product and see if you get the same effect as you said your hair looks normal when its been washed and dried my hairdresser dont recommend gel much.you could go and get it checked out but i doudt the dermatoligist would take it seriously if you tell him you are only losing that amount of hair a day as its not a huge amount and it still falls in the normal range i would be happy to only lose 3-6 hairs a day.but good luck

Just by going on them pictures i would say its down to the gel bonding the hair together causing the scalp to be exposed .Even when i had thick hair the same happend to me with gel.

Hmmm...I agree with Mickey. Looks like the gel is bonding the hair together and thus exposing your scalp?

That's strange.. I've been losing 30 hairs in the shower for 6 months now and I see less scalp than that when I put gel in... Have you intentionally spread your hair down the middle?

That being said, if you are only only losing 3 hairs a day (I don't think that's even possible), then you definitely don't have male pattern baldness. Just a naturally low hair density I guess...

It's the gel... what you should be using is hair fiber or some type of hair putty... actually gives your hair a thicker look with a natural look that holds... gel can often be wattery and it could give your hair a wet look that makes it look thinner.

Try American crew Fiber
Got2b Chaotic putty
La Coupe stretch fiber putty...

just a few.

re:

I thought it looked pretty clear that there is some diffuse thinning going on, actually very clear. I am sure the gel does not help the overall appearance but looking at the picture of the back of Mr. Fabio's head, it seems like there is some thinning ging on. Maybe my hair is naturally thicker (or I am just crazy) but I have male pattern baldness and I have less scalp showing when my hair is wet or gelled. I know this cannot be good news Fabio but of course I could be wrong.
At the very least, a vist to a derm is in order....

yea, unless you've had that density your whole life, there is some definite diffuse thinning going on there. could be male pattern baldness. perhaps extreme stress, hypothyroid, a medication, or insulin resistance have contributed.

When i put gel i put the hair all the way back and then to the front, spreading it all over my head.

I started putting gel 5 years ago and my scalp was always showing up because of the gel style, and i even got a friend joking with me that i was starting to get bald and that was 3/4 years ago.

WHat i noticed is like Johnny24601 a little difuse thinning going on...but is male pattern baldness watching your hair falling off everyday or just the hair thinning?

re:

male pattern baldness can be general thinning, a receeding hairline or both. It effect everyone at different ages and at different rates. You have to be very honest with yourself and determine whether you have less hair then you did a few years ago. I looked at a picture from a few years ago and realized that even then I had a slight receeding hairline, but it was not until a few months ago that I realized it was male pattern baldness. You have a tough decision to make because if you do believe you have male pattern baldness because there are now drugs (finasteride and minoxidil) which "seem" to work but involve commitment as far as time and $$.
I believe I have had positive results after only a few months on finasteride and minoxidil. The gains are small as my hairline has only a slight improvement but the overall density has been significant. If you have thinning (and not a receeding hairline) then I think finasteride will really help. BUT YOU MUST DO YOUR RESEARCH!! Bcause finasteride can have side effects and many other drawbacks.
