Weight Loss Hair Loss?

How to distinguish between actual male pattern baldness and weight loss hair loss?

i went on an extreme diet for 2.5 months and lost a CRAZY amount of weight, like we are talking about 20lbs.

it ended in december, and now in february i am thinning at the front of my scalp. my bangs don't hang as low from the sides.

i am freaking out.

how to tell the difference between the 2?

does weight loss hair loss cause shedding from all over the head? or does it affect in similar areas as male pattern baldness?

i am scared for my life, i am just 22 almost turning 23.

how long does it take to grow back if it's weight loss related?

male pattern baldness will be in the male pattern, weight loss hair loss will not. 99% of hairloss in males is male pattern baldness. If your loss is beginning at the temples that is typical of male pattern baldness and I would say it's overwhelmingly likely that it is that. Finasteride will stop male pattern baldness long term

thanks for replying. So no amount of drastic weight loss with poor nutrition can cause hair loss at the top of the forehead?

i didn't mean to insinuate temples if i did.

what i mean by the side of the bangs was the side of the top of my forehead. but it's not just that, it's my whole top forehead.

my temples can't get any thicker.

even the top looks thick (or "fine" as it was) until i get in the bathroom light which exposes the thin-ness.

If your hairline is going its probably male pattern baldness. Post pictures so its easier to understand what your talking about.

I wouldn't say you have a lot of temple recession, but your top is thin as hell. Diffuse thinning and this is DEFINITELY male pattern baldness

What's your family history? Is your dad bald, etc. etc. Because you can get a good estimate about the agressiveness of the problem your fighting.

my dad has the thickest hair in the world

my grandfather has all his hair, they are just thin and grey/white but no bald spots or anything

males on my mom's side however all suffer

In that case if you decide to treat it, I reckon you have a good chance of keeping your hair, so finasteride is pretty much perfect.

No problem. The mother's side is pretty much bulcrap for most of the cases.

haha, gotta love the internet.

alright so i plan on doing the following:

get rogaine right now to start.

get information on how to get finasteride

im almost 23 years old

anything i should be concerned about?

my grandfather had prostate cancer if that helps.

i will also look into nizoral and spironolactone

any input will be appreciated from anyone

would it be dumb to take dutasteride instead of finasteride to start off with?

i read the study link from your progress thread...

oh lawd

someone tell me.

if i had low thyroid for a couple months....would that create my hair loss as well?

same time period as my dramatic weight loss a few months ago

exact time around from november to january....

just start finasteride not dutasteride
