Wear a hat all day or get a sunburn? Which is better?

I work outside in the sun about 10 hours a day. I would prefer not to wear a hat because it traps heat, uncomfortable, and for extended use i don't think its good on my thinning crown and receding hairline. However since i am thin on the crown, i think my scalp will get burned easily in the thin spots if i don't wear a hat and i am worried that will only set me back in my treatments causing damage to my scalp and hair follicles and hurt my recent improvements. What should i do? Any advice or suggestions is much appreciated!

I would not recommend this, but ever since I went out and played some golf and burned the crap out of my shaved head (#3 blade) I've been noticing more regrowth around my temples. It sounds silly, but I've seriously wondered if burning my scalp wasn't the help it needed to start the regrowth process as it had to switch into a proliferative state to regrow the skin I had damaged.

It's a weird little phenomenon, but it seems to have actually helped.

Hehehe congrats on having such a weird catalyst for regrowth!

However, i'd say it's probably a coincidence... :p

It probably wasn't the burn that helped you - but the peel.

That's the notion behind retin-a and procede - they're both basically skin peels for the scalp.

Coppertone and a few other name brands make a spray on sunscreen which comes in handier than sunscreen lotion for those of us w/ a little hair left on our heads.
