I just turned 22 and have been losing my hair for about the last 2 years. I immediately started to take Propecia when I noticed the thinning and added Nizoral 1% a few weeks after. As you can see in the pics below, neither have seemed to help me much. In day-light, you can easily see my scalp. Using styling products makes it even worse. I believe my hair loss/thinning slowed down, but I have not see any regrowth. It is getting frustrating trying to deal with the thinning after spending so much money. I feel like Rogaine may be the next step, but the cost and long term commitment is holding me back. Do I have other options? I want to get off Propecia because I do not believe it is helping much. Is that even wise?

No not wise at all, I would say.
Propecia is probably what is keeping you from rapid deterioration if your male pattern baldness is as aggressive as it seems due to your age.

Things can only get worse if you drop finasteride...how long have you been on it anyway?

By the way...if cost is an issue, proscar (or generic) ends up being cheaper than rogaine.

You're probably going to react violently @ this suggestion...but so did I when I went with someone's advice...buzz it down man....I thought my buzzcut would look horrible but...you will thin out your sides with a buzz making it look natural all around, and it will look good since your hairline is kickass.

Skaff: I have been on finasteride for about 2 years and using Nizoral for about the same time. I can try to get Proscar, but I feel my derm won't prescribe it just because he isn't too helpful at times. Also its odd, I am still on my first bottle of nizoral, but it is about to run out. Anyone know any reliable retailers for 2%?

MacAttack: I have actually cut my hair pretty closely to a buzz cut, but haven't gone all the way through to a #0 at the barber. It doesn't look too bad, but with my overall body composite, I feel like having hair (thick hair anyways) looks better.

Vipervin. You just uncovered the problem. You have only used one bottle of nizoral in two years. That is not positive.

Don't feel bad I did the same thing for almost a year. Used about 1.5 to 2 bottles. Now I just pour it on and wait 5 minutes 2 to 3 times a week.

The thing is that one treatment is good, 2 is better but it's the synergy that they create that adds up to more than the sum of it's parts.

nizoral is vital to let Propecia do it's work! After two years on Propecia dropping it would be a catastrophe in my book. I don't think you could even lower the dosage.

Thanks for the info Lorenzo. I will use more nizoral and see how things are after a few months.

Viper: I know how you feel man, my hair is looking pretty bad at times, and I use the same regimen you do. Use Nizoral on Monday Wednesday Friday, it's easier to remember then every 3 days.

Have you been on Propecia for 2 years?

Nizoral isn't vital for Propecia to work, it helps, but if you'll respond to finasteride, you'll respond to it with or without Nizoral. Nizoral might help accelerate the effects or grow thicker hairs.

I also feel the same way you do about Minoxidil, it seems too much of a hassle and a big commitment.

Goodluck and keep us all updated on how you're doing with your fight against male pattern baldness.
