i was thinning out at the front , temples and vertex.

took finasteride, its been a month and a half nearly.

before finasteride, i never lost a single hair from the back. now i'm losing lots of thin vellus-like hair everytime i pull. and the shed has made me lose...aLOT..and i mean ALOT of hair from the back of my head which is supposedly in the safe zone.

is it normal to lose vellus hair from the back?..anybody else lose thin hair upon starting finasteride?

-------------
another thing...regarding finasteride sheds...i've reduced my dosage to one mg every other day to help with the shed.. it seems the second day of taking it i shed less..then i take finasteride..and i shed alot the next day..but the day after again the shed is less..it seems as long as i take finasteride i'm gonna keep shedding

who's ill-informed? the doctor who advises NOT to use finasteride if you have a t.e because it'll "make things worse"...or others who claim the finasteride shed will only affect those people whos hair is already sensitive to DHT. the second makes sense since people (like bryan) claim hair thrives on the absence of DHT...a reduction therefore in DHT by finasteride would cause a shift from telogen to anagen or whatever causing regrowth and shedding.

your thoughts?

It sucks that you are still shedding but when you put things into perspective it has been less than two months.

I think both could happen from finasteride but perhaps they would be distinguisehd by the quality of hair shed. If you are loosing more male pattern baldness hair than regular hairs then it could very well just be that they are going to grow back better with the new lower DHT levels. But it could also mean finasteride isn't helping because normally you will loose more of these and they would come back weaker. If you are loosing regular hairs from all over then it's probably a Telogen Effluvium shed. But I don't think anyone can tell what is the best course of action in either case. If it is Telogen Effluvium it might stop on its own and produce good results.

Only time will tell. Your shed could just be male pattern baldness related and the finasteride is just starting to work so you don't see less shedding yet.

The oscillating shedding is weird, but I get that too only not as regular. I wouldn't attribute it to the staggered dosage becuase I don't thnik the body can react that quickly

This doesn't sound right. I've heard of losing hair all over the scalp but not from the safe "horseshoe" area. No idea what could be going on here:( Check with a Doctor that knows what he/she is doing.
