Vellus hair disappeared!

Hi guys,

This is my first post, though I have been reading this forum since two years.
I am 31 years old, NW4 with slick bald crown and a bit of receding hairline.
I’ve been on 1/4 Proscar everyday for almost 4 months and half.

In the 2nd month of the treatment I’ve noticed very tiny vellus hair all over the crown when looking from a magnifying mirror, but now I cannot see them anymore?

Any explanation for that? can that be a shedding phase?

Cheers!

it takes at least a year to see the best results, and therefore you wouldn't be too wise to study any progress too hard for at least another 6-8 months.

its most likely a shed, but without any regrowth agent on your slick bald crown, it's hard to think that you'll regrow anything cosmetically visible.

just keep on with the treatments... tackle things more aggressively if you think your not progressing, or if you want more regrowth.

sunrise,
if you are nw4,
get on minoxidil twice a day and nizoral shampoo thrice a week.
Add some SODs.

Prosccar/finasteride is mainly for arresting the hairloss, not for regrowth.

When I look at my crown throught the magifying mirror I still can see the root of the hair under the skin (i.e. black dots!) are those dead follicles? though at one point small vellus hair was comming out of them!!

Thanka a lot guys for your input.

Do you think so even the crown was slick bald (for over 5 years)?

Yeah, since adding finasteride to my regimen I've had a lot of fuzz go terminal mostly around the perimeter of my bald spot which is (was) slick as can be. The whole area is now covered in fuzz with quite a few random dark hairs coming out of what was once a desert. You'll really need to add minoxidil to your regimenn if you want any chance of that happening in my opinion.

I will add Minoxidil/Nizoral eventually after a couple of months (to pass the 6 months stage), this in order to see any difference that finasteride alone can do!

Are you sure the vellus hair didn't just become normal, healthy hair? Especially if they were around the "rim" of your bald spot if you get me, it might be starting to fill in in a circular motion as opposed to just suddenly sprout new hair all over one day.

Barry_Blue you are correct mate! vellus hair around the rim got little stronger, while the vellus hair in the middle of the bald area disappeared!

Hello,

I am on the same boat. Had a bunch of Vellus hairs like 3 days ago(I think) and now there isnt any.

Did that mean that it was in the shedding phase to come back stronger, OP?

This is the scariest feeling ever - when you realize all the baby hairs that you THOUGHT were hairs growing back disappear and in fact you realize they were never hairs that were growing back - they were hairs that were dying in spite of your therapy.

Awful awful feeling.

Add some new agents like minoxidil or step up to dutasteride.

Also posting in 11 year old thread. The pain is timeless.
