I am due to have a FUT transplant in the near future. I understand that it's ideal to be taking finasteride prior to and after surgery, but being an extremely sensitive responder to finasteride I am only able to use it in topical form. I'm currently taking Hasson & Wong's liposomal finasteride 0.1%, which is the only way I've been able to find a balance between taking the drug and functioning normally (even upping to 0.2% gives me clear side effects.)

H&W's clinic advised that I can use the gel in the day up to surgery and then resume 1-3 weeks after starting the procedure. My question is, is it worth getting on finasteride pills in that 1-3 weeks after the surgery, knowing that it will likely cause another hormonal imbalance which will take months to subside? I know finasteride is advised always, and has been reported to help with shock loss, but is it that essential to be on it in the immediate wake of a transplant?

Thank you
