using hairspray to lock in nanogen??

I know nanogen offer a lockin mist but i refuse to pay £7 or £8 for what is basically hairspray, at the moment im useing VO5 firm hold but it makes my hair go rock hard and a bit frizzyish and doesnt even lock the nanogen in that well.
So can anyone recomment a light not to to firm hairspray that will do the buisness. thanks
