Hey gang,
Just checking in for updates on the Nizoral shortage. Anyone know anything new? It's August, stil out of stock everywhere. Very curious, haven't heard exactly why or when it will return. Thanks for the update.

ps, since ketoconazole is the active agent anyway, are there any recommend replacement shampoos right now?

The company that manufactures nizoral is being relocated and has to get the FDA to reapprove the product. It should take a couple of months before they are back on stores shelves. Online sellers of Nizoral are taking advantage of the shortage by inflating the prices. The nizoral shampoo in my sig is the cheapest I could find. 2 bottles of 2% Nizoral for 24$ or $12 a pop.

Here's are some other effective alternatives in the meantime:
Regenepure DR
Revita by DS Labs

What's better anyway, 1 or 2%, or does it make a difference? Heard 2% can have some side effects, don't know about that. Seems we might have an easier time finding 2% than 1% now.

edit: Yeah, doesn't look like Nizoral is coming back anytime soon, hope I am wrong. 2 Months ago they were saying it was coming back around now, of course now we are hearing 2 more months. Be nice before the end of the year...

It doesn't matter which one you pick. They did about the same for hair loss in studies. 2% can be a bit more drying though, but it lathers up quicker/easier than 1%.

About 10 boxes were on the shelf here in BC Canada and I asked the pharmacist about the shortage and she said there's more in the back. Nizoral 2% $15 each. Bought one today.
