Treating Hair Loss After 4.5 Years, Is It Possible To See Regrowth?

Hair loss is genetic and there's thinning too, tried minoxidil after 1 year of hair loss, it was perfect but I stopped, then again after 2 years and used it like 3 or 2 times per week for a year, which did nothing of course, now at 4.5 years I've been consistent with applying it twice daily and I use nizoral 2% too, but there's almost not regrowth yet and the ones growing in are very thin, idk if that's regrowth or just normal miniaturization.

Any ways, do I hope for regrowth or just maintenance since it's been almost 5 years and my hair follicles probably have died?

Current age and photos would be helpful. My impression is get on 15% Minoxidil and some DHT blocker topically at least and give at a year. Full blast would be topical and systemic meds. Your choice.

I'm a few months away from 21, actually I'm a girl but no one replies over the female forums, I just kinda want a prognosis since even my Dr couldn't say something assertive, this is how my hair looks when it's damp, after minoxidil application it looks even thinner

how is that hairloss...

I know the part seems decent and normal but from a front view in the sun, the front part of scalp really shows from beneath the hair, and more than 50% reduction of ponytail diameter, but it's really good to hear that you think it's okay

4Dermatologists said it's unlikely to be FPHL since my parents don't have balding and because the parts don't look so wide, however my dad recently started balding at the crown with some recession, and my mom's hair started getting finer after menopause, plus I have loads of miniaturized hairs + my hair loss is more concentrated at the top and crown and this seems to be FPHL rather than just CTE, idk, ran all blood tests and now on supplements for low ferritin and vit d but nothing significant showing up yet

I know I should give it some time with the minoxidil, I'm just afraid that my hair follicles are dying because some have miniaturized very greatly they're producing transparent hairs and idk if at this point they can be reversed with minoxidil

Even if you're a girl you need an anti-androgen at the base of your treatment, you can try topical spironolactone or even oral if you dont care about sides.

I'll discuss this with my derm as I have low blood pressure so I'll need to be careful, thank you for your advice

If your parents don't have hair loss, you better do a full check up to address the cause of hairloss, hypothyroidism causes hair loss, some minerals and vitamins deficinces , hormonal imbalance.
but If it's Female pattern hair loss, just minoxidil and antiandrogen is the only hope.

Father started balding at 45 and he has minimal recession but bald spot on the crown at 52 now, mom suffered from telogen effluvium after giving birth at 35 and never recovered her hair back and she didn't care to restore it or get diagnosis, she looks like she has fphl except that 20 years later she's still maybe a Ludwig I-3 or a bit thinner , she has hair but not a lot of it and she doesn't look bald. I did all the blood work, deficient in vitamin d and ferritin, normal blood count and thyroid profile, didn't do the hormonal profile as my menstrual cycle is on point every month, no acne or excessive facial hair, started addressing the problem with vitamins iron and minoxidil, the shed did stop, no regrowth yet, and can't tell whether it stopped because of supplements or minoxidil but prob the mimix

If it's telogen effluvium you recover your hair after a period of time if the trigger is removed ( in your moms case birth ), imo i think she has female pattern baldness and you got her genes. My mom has FPB and i got it from her, exact same pattern.

Blood tests are primary because without ruling out systemic conditions treatment may not be optimized. I recommend saliva hormone testing, hair analysis for lead, metals; mold tests also. I know not all necessary for hair functions but as long as you're doing it, it serves as excellent reference for future health monitoring overall.

What's strange about it is that both my grand dad and grandma from moms side have had heads full of hair until they died which was 50 something and 70 something but I guess genes can skip generations tho

Do you know any studies or something to support this? Or a personal experience maybe
Nano, i know that you are afraid that you might be losing your hair, we all are. But for now all you can do is to keep treating it with your current regimen and hope for the best, maybe add a topical anti-androgen like i advised you. Hang in there, use treatments to buy time and check these forums for future treatments like the brotzu lotion or RCH-01 that might be a possible cure for you. Anyways, even if you have FPB you are in a very early stage and you seem young, thus you have enough estrogen to protect your follicles. TLDR; Don't stress too much and take your treatments, it's all you can do atm. Good luck !
