Traveling with RU

Hi - I'd like to pack my RU with my in my suitcase and take it with me since I'll be in a new city for the summer. I'll be putting it in my checked back, and not my carry on. However, I'm scared of either a) having to go through some ordeal / hassle for it mistakenly getting considered a drug and/or b) having them remove it, mess with it (and potentially contaminate it) before realizing it's not a drug. Alternatively, is it better to put in my carry on? Has anyone had any success simply mailing it to their destination?
