Hi, I have been on topical spironolactone 5% for 2 days as a replacement for finasteride (I have been off finasteride for about 3 weeks). In these 2 days I have had terrible headaches all day and I have felt extra tired. Is this normal? I don't know if I can continue treatment if it is going to be this full on...

I've been using it for a good few months and would say I haven't had a single side effect. I think I did actually get a few headaches around the time I started but they went away. Maybe cut back on your dose and work up?

How do you cut back when it is topical? I apply only a little amount but make sure I cover most of the thinning area of the scalp. Does topical spironolactone effect more than the area it is applied to?

In my opinion topical spironolactone is a waste of time anyways especially if its giving you headaches . The anti androgenic effects are simply to weak to halt or even slow down hair loss. RU is a stronger topical if you cant take a finasteride/dutasteride

Thanks for the replies. Would take RU but it sounds too dangerous with not studies or anything on it. I don't want to grow a second head in 10 years.
