thinning round the side of my head

I hear hair loss is supposed to only affect the top of the head, and not the sides or back... i would just like some clarification on this matter if anyone can help?

My hair is thinning round the hairline and crown area... however i am convinced that the sides arnt as thick as they were... no where near as bad as the top, and not really noticable to anyone but me.

I know people say they lose their hair around the temple area... well mine seems to be thinning a little there, but i'm sure its going all the way back to maybe the area where if u drew a line directly up from the middle of my ear. This then seems to thicken up again higher up the side... probably about level with the temple area. Is this normal? The backs fine... actually its too thick and the hairdresser has to thin it out a bit when i get it cut.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

Some people have said the same thing. I would see your doctor, because as you said the sides shouldnt be affected...

docs

Yeah thanks for the advice... Stingray on here has advised me to see a Doctor and get some blood tests done for a few other slightly strange things, that may affect me... i'm gonna do this soon...

It might just be me being paranoid, or its always been like this, but if i go to the docs i'll post what they say in a topic.

Problem is with docs is that they know f*** all about hair loss...

I asked a Doctor ages ago about possible treatments for hair loss.. he said there was none and hadnt heard of Propecia... another Doctor the asked a few months later after i'd started finasteride why I was 'putting that sh*t in my body'... I stopped taking it and now 2 years later my hairs worse and i've started on dutasteride... I think i'm always a bot concerned with going to docs over hair loss cause they dont see it as a big issue and know f*** all anyways...

I'll go tho anyway and i'll post my results sometime

If you check out the drawings on the Norwood guys of what each stage is like, you'll see that there is some thinning that happens on the sides. I've noticed that for me this is the case. I don't think that you're all alone on this as much as you think you might be. BTW here's a link so that you can see what I'm talking about...http://www.forhair.com/norwood.htm In the drawings you can see that the sides, especially toward the top, do start to recede a bit and maybe in some guys, like myself, in thickness.

Once you stop taking finasteride you will stop thinning on the sides.

norwood

Yeah i checked the norwood scale and strange enough the bit i'm refering to on the sides is the bit that even in the most advanced state of hairloss isnt affected... weird!

Reckon a trip to the docs is defo in order still... the possible thinning round the sides has been present since b4 i started using finasteride so dont think its this, but thanks for the response anyway nesta!
