thinning or receeding? [pic]

hello !!

I was examining my hair this morning before I got it cut and I took a few photos.

I'm thinning all over on top (worst at temples and vertex) but I'm not slick bald anywhere. I just have this:

See at the temples it's all kinda vellus ??

I've noticed my flatmate who is effectively an NW2 (ish) like me doesn't have those vellus hairs, he's just slick bald in that area.

Is this a normal type of recession? Is it in the "intermediate" stage of recession? And (because it's vellus) is it a good sign... maybe finasteride will help those hairs return terminal again?

oh my beautiful hair it's so nice and thick and shiny at the sides lol. I don't style it like that btw

Maybe your flatmate just has a naturaly high hairline.
This looks like a cross between recession and thinning of the temples, pretty standard m.p.b pattern.

Good thing is most people probably wouldn't think you've got male pattern baldness, but those of us mystically attuned to the curse know better. :wink:

How is the male pattern baldness in your family? That's usually a good indicator.

Anyway, best get on the meds if you want to keep that hair! finasteride might well thicken what you have. From what I hear, minoxidil almost certainly would, but once you start on minoxidil your hair will be as dependant on it as a junky on smack. Except, unlike the junky who will only feel like he's dying, your hair will actaully perish if it doesn't get its daily fix. So not a good analogy.

Ok, will if that's fairly standard then fair enough I guess. Although my flatmate has definitely receeded, it's not a "naturally high hairline".

haha thanks for the analogy . Dad started thinning at 38, mum's dad I dont know when - but was bald as a coot in his 70s. Actually, I've been on finasteride for nearly two months. I have the same regimen as you. I'm not touching minoxidil, I'd sooner go bald !! best of luck to both of us eh
