Noob here - I’ve been losing a lot more strands of hair in the shower than I was just a few months ago, and my hair in the front has thinned up to the point where I can see through my scalp. Also if I rub my scalp a lot more hairs shed that are different lengths and density, some look miniaturized. The back of my head feels like it has also thinned but fortunately there is no visible scalp.
I’m just surprised how fast I lost so much hair. People have been telling me that my hair is not thinning and that I’m not going bald but I have definitely noticed it. My hair was thick and luscious up until October so I don’t understand what has caused such rapid thinning and loss of density. It just feels completely different. I went through a horrible breakup with my girlfriend in September and also started graduate school around the same time which resulted in a lot of stress, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. My hairline doesn’t seem like it has receded, but the hair has diffused thinly (front, top, back) in the span of a few months. I have a dermatologist appointment on the 23rd. Thyroid checked out OK. Went to my physician and she said everything is OK though wrote me out a script for Propecia (that I haven't filled). This whole thing hasn’t helped my depression either.
I can definitely notice my scalp in the front when I try to style my hair, something that was fine just a few months ago. Is this male pattern baldness, Telogen Effluvium, both? I’m afraid to get on Propecia because of the sides and Minoxidil because of the lifetime commitment. I’ve lost weight during these last few months (roughly 10 pounds) and I’m pretty skinny to begin with (6’2â€, 165lbs), though I go to the gym a few days a week. I’m 26 btw. I also discontinued Paxil after 6 years of use this past June (anxiety issues - which were fine until recently!). My dad has a decent amount of hair and he’s 65. I can understand if it’s male pattern baldness but losing this much hair in 3-4 months has been alarming to say the least. I’ve been using 2% Nizoral a couple of times a week (I had it leftover when I was going through a bout of seborrheic dermatitis a year ago). Just trying to look for some answers.
