I'm experiencing thinning in my crown, I have male pattern baldness, but I thought that only affected hair on the top of your head. However, i have noticed a lot of thinning on the hair around my ear on one side of my head is this all with male pattern baldness?

You generally have thinner hair on the sides, you probably always had it but didn't think about it when you weren't balding. Now everything that you don't consider thick hair you think is balding.
...but of course, it can be balding too but it's tough to know without pictures.
