I'm almost 21 and already have really bad male pattern baldness. within the past 6 I diffused everywhere.

see for yourself:

http://community.webshots.com/myphotos? ... ity=OnVmPw

Started propecia last week with minoxidil, but really how much can that help me, I already have a f*****g horseshoe and and I'm 20. My friend (also 20) who was in a simliar situation got surgery from armani, he looks great.

I"m thinking I should just quit the meds altogether (hey its healthier that way anyways) let the top diffuse into nothing at all, and just get a megasession hair transplant. Anyone who says I'm too young is in no place to judge, Id really rather look good now than in 10 yrs, plus they might have other alternatives by then.

This is really what I'm thinking. Propecia and rogain might help, but only so much, and I'm already beyond the point where keeping what I have is enough to be happy.

Please tell me what you think.

if you are young it means that your hairloss is probably less than 3 years.
I suggest that you get on finasteride, minoxidil and nizoral or dutasteride, minoxidil and nizoral with some sods (prox-n, tricomin etc).

I agree that your loss is severe for your age. However you are too young to get a hair transplant.
And hair transplant might cause shockloss (loss of your existing hairs. you might add 3000 grafts and lose the same number in shockloss and you will never catch up).

give your treatments one year time. If after a year of two your loss has stabilized (I am pretty sure if will improve for you as you dying hairs all over the scalp which will thicken).

just my thoughts.

I'm not sure what exactly you were saying.

If I stay on propecia for a yr, maybe I'll keep what I have or even gain some, but I'm positive I'll still want and need surgery after that, so wont the shockloss be just as bad if not worse after a year?

Is it possible that I stop all medications, wait for all these weak hairs to die, and then get a megasession from a NW6, there will be less shockloss if I'm completely bald, right?

Or will the shockloss be less severe if the propecia and minoxidil strengthens the hair in the next year?

soccerguy,
if you use finasteride and minoxidil for a year, your existing hairs would have strengthened and thickened.
this means that there will be less shockloss.

i'm going to have to agree with techprof. try the meds for a year see what happens.

getting a transplant so young is risky because you can use up all of your donor hair.

just make sure you make no decisions about getting a hair transplant when you are upset, because it will only cause you to be more upset later in life if it doesn't turn out right.

i know it's tough when you're young to lose hair.
i'm only 20 and i'm probably a nw3 and starting to get thin all around.

Soccer guy,

If you are only 21 and have that much hairloss....................your male pattern baldness probably is due to be pretty genetically exensive over the years.

Look hard at this picture and think http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/hello/51/95 ... health.jpg

If that head of hair is in your future, you will not have enough donor hair to manually tranpslant taking one hair from the donor area and moving it to the recipient area over and over. You will be robbing Peter to pay Paul. It would be better for you in my opinion to wait on cloning to beome a reality to consider getting something surgical done to ensure you can "make more hair" out of you donor hair first. That may be four or five more years. In the meantime, If I were you, I'd learn to love the buzz cut, buff up my bod, and just live life (perhaps with a goatee' if it suits you).

You would not want to be stuck with a thinnish-looking combover type hairdo if cloning did not pan out. Thats my opinon based on your age and pictures. Best of luck on any path you choose to take.

its easy for you guys to say "wait four or five years", but unfortunately I don't feel like I have that luxury. I am supposed to be in the prime of life, and waiting 5 years means 5 years of depression. I guess I'll definately wait one year on these meds and see what happens, but I'd rather have hair for my 20s than later on in life.

Dude....while you are figuring out what you need to do, have you tried shaving it all....seems like you got a nice beautiful head, pretty well shaped and structured...unlike mine :(

Many of my friends who are not even balding have shaved head and needless to say they look cool.

in the past day or two I started thinking about wigs. I know they sound really lame, but I'm so young I doubt anyone would even think I was using one.

I know itd be just a temporary solution formaybe a few years, but its an option isn't it? (I don't know the first thing about wigs though, I'll check out the other forums) I can't believe my life has come to this, but fcuk this is reality.

Armani Quote

armani just gave me a quote for 5800 grafts at $16,000. I'm not even considering surgery probably for another year, but was wondering what you guys think. Last week started propecia and minoxidil.

5800 is alot at age 21, but maybe itll last a few years and theyll have something better by then.

i hope I could bargain him down from $16,000. I hope so, cuz my parents I'm pretty sure will laugh if I tell them I want $16,000 surgery.

all in all, i hope you all understand surgery is a risk I'm WILLING to take in the near future. Even if its risky to do it young, a good doctor will do good things.........right?
