I've read enough to know there is no way to discern if your vellus hairs will turn terminal. I've been on minoxidil a year and finasteride 11 months. I've got some new slightly pigmented hairs, that are seemingly getting thicker, albeit very slowly. In the past month or so hundreds of new vellus have popped up. My questions: for those of who have regrown hair. Does new growth always start vellus and then slowly turn terminal? Does the hair have to fall out and regrow in order to increase in diameter, or does it increase as it is in its current growing state? I think some of mine are increasing as they grow, but haven't watched close enough to really know.

I got both some new terminal and lots of vellus when i started minoxidil...
Here is quickly my regimen. (I'm female so this is probably different as I am defuse on crown, hormones different)
Was shedding like crazy for several years long and short--probably 200 a day hair was everywhere.
Back stayed dense and unaffected top got thin especially front part.
In september I started spironolactone as topical anti-dHt
slowed down my shed by November.
November I added Minoxidil foam 5% 1 time a day (female dose)
had dread shed for 2 weeks by week 5 I saw some sprouts in magnifying mirror.
I thickened up a bit by February---not drastic but enough to see some improvement--still some terminal mostly vellus.
I maintained until June
June I started to shed short hairs about 1-3 inches (my hair is long). Some terminal some skinny and sick look.
In early July i added topical finasteride.
by 2nd week shed slowed down a lot.
by 4th week I see thickening of the caliber of hair that is coming in. A lot more new terminal hairs, some vellus hairs in places I did not have much hair before, and more better caliber of hair (thickness of shaft)
If it's the minoxidil turning over sick hair for thicker hair (I was at 7 months i think when shed started, 9 months at regrowth) which I have read about on here OR if its the addition of a stronger anti DHT (finasteride) I do not know.
I am not cured or anything and I do not know if its a dramatic change I think its subtle I am going got take more photos in a month or two if all stays the same/improves.
I am a little nervous if I am going to get a shed from finasteride that I often read about.
Wow seems like you respond quickly to the changes you make. Giving my current strategy the full two years in hopes I see more change. Time will tell.

I do it's just hard to know if the topical
anti DHT meds are helping or if it's all minoxidil. I think in 3 months I will have better idea.
