I think you can never underestimate the significance of a good haircut when it comes to male pattern baldness. For me I notice it can make the difference between having nill signs of baldness to being particularly exposed. Useless hair cutters can give you a haircut which overemphasizes the areas you have no loss loss which makes the receded areas stick out.
I recently had another good haircut from a hairdresser and my hair looks awesome. The time before that I had a f*****g shocking haircut which tarnished my hair for 5 weeks and made me feel like im loosing more hair.
I actually like to cut my own hair, because I think cutting hair is a fairly low - skilled job and some hairdressers are just f*****g idiots and thats why they are so dumb they can't get this basic job right. I always do a good job on my own hair. And then I can cut is as required whenever I want to minimise baldness. However I am overseas for a lengthy period so alas I dont have all my gear to cut my hair, not until next month, so I am relying on monkeys to cut my hair, sometimes they do it right, sometimes they cant even get it right. Cant believe I paid someone $45 to do such a crappy job.
