This should probably be in the "Success Stories", but I don't think a lot of people actually go to that forum.
After knowing for years that I was thinning but not worrying about it, I finally took a look at myself in the mirror after a haircut one day late in February and was horrified that you could almost land a plane on my head. Once in a while, a friend would make a polite comment about my thinning hair, but I didn't really think much of it. Well, after that haircut, I bought a hand mirror so I could better survey the damage. I'm sure we all know what that initial feeling is like. So I did a lot of reading and talking to people and this is what I came up with:
* 2% Rogaine twice a day for the first two months, then switch to 5% generic minoxidil for the last month and a half.
* 1/4 Proscar three times a week, but about a week ago, I switched it to 4 times a week, simply because I was always left with an odd piece that couldn't it into my 7-day pill organizer.
* 2% Nizoral Shampoo, usually every morning now because the 5% minoxidil is itchy and does give me flakes.
* L'Oreal Vive Thickening Shampoo and Thickening Gel.
* 2 multivitamins a day
* Kelp supplement once a day
* Biotin supplement once a day
* Posiitve attitude, knowing that I could overcome this - but I was also secure in the knowledge that I would probably have an hair transplant later this year anyway (I've got the money, just don't have the time right now)
* Also, I don't drink or smoke, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
So, 3 and a half months later, I must say I am stunned at how my hair has come back, both on the hairline and in thickness. I've got a jungle where there was a desert a few months ago. There are some good terminal hairs filling in my temples that had receded years ago.
Now, I'm not sure I even need an hair transplant. My regimen costs me about $40 per month (Cdn). I even had one buddy of mine who I haven't seen in a few months say to me that he hadn't seen my hair look better. So either my regimen is working or I was just having a really bad seasonal shed.
Either way, I just thought I'd share what regimen is working for me.
By the way, no Finesteride side effects at all for me.
