hey guys i've posted before about trying to avoid propecia for now anyway, i want to try some other roots before i commit to something like that because i am only 20. What i'm thinking about trying is Revivogen, Nizoral 1% and Shen Min Tablets for now since i bought some of it. I don't know if this will work or not but i'm thinking about giving it a try. I may consider getting the Tricomin Spray to add to it. What are ur thoughts guys? I know propecia is the best proven supplement to use but i'm just scared of the long term effects it may have if i start it at such a young age and minoxidil sounds kinda harsh. Thanks again guys

That sounds good to start with, see how it works, but once ur shen min tablets finish i wouldnt recommend using them again. I personally dont think that stuff works, but thats just my opinion. Have a read into spironolactone also, goodluck and keep us updated

i forgot to ask this in my reply, but would Revivogen be better to try over Tricomin for stopping hair loss and possibly regrowing some hair?

Hi brent, im in the same boat as you.

Im only 18 and while i want to keep my hair, and apparently propecia is the no. 1 way to go about doing this, i don't want to:

mess up my hormones. While i dont believe that the small number of horror stories i read here about finasteride represent the majority of the millions of people who use it, i still believe im too young for such a drug, really. ImmortalHair, someone who has conducted a lot of research, claims finasteride is dangerous and has a natural alternative regimen, which cannot be a snake oil as he doesnt sell any product he recommends and cannot benefit from it, as he gets you to order them from wherever you can find them, namely your local stores.

i also dont want to become dependent on finasteride, before i have tried something gentler. spironolactone seems like the perfect treatment for me, 5% for hairlines, and i'd love to be the guy who could come back and tell all the people who use spironolactone as a part of their regimens "its the spironolactone! I've used it alone for a year and maintained!" I dont want to lose my hairline in in 2,3,4,5+ years if finasteride stops working. Ill suddenly lose all my hair at 23... not my cup of tea!

My advice, if you're not trying finasteride, spironolactone is definately worth trying! Topical antiandrogen, no side effects, used for long term maintenace, relatively cheap! The one drawback is it isn't as proven as the others.

Also investigate immortalhair's regimen that i mentioned if you want.

The only thing stopping me taking spironolactone and his regimen right now is im seeing a derm soon, and i might have to try propecia alone for a year to judge if it is working....

good luck!

Nah stay away from those DHT blockers they wont do much. Take a good multivatim ot stick with the hair nutrient tablets.

As for tricomin or revivogen, if you can afford it i would suggest u use them both! goodluck

brent,
what makes you think that shenmin is safe for you while finasteride is not?
if you don't want to take any finasteride, don't waste time in shen min or saw palmetto.
shen min or saw palmetto might have more side effects than finasteride.
just because something is natural, it doesn't mean it is safe.

I ordered the Revivogen scalp therapy and shampoo tonight, i'm going to go out and buy Nizoral 1% this week as well. I am also going to try some of the supplements that Immortal Hair has suggested so right now my routine is gonna look like this, its kinda lengthy lol.

-Revivogen Scalp therapy
-Revivogen Shampoo
-Nizoral 1%
-Emu Oil
-Beta Sitosteols
-Shen Min Hair Nutrient tabs
-Biotin
-Zinc
-Multivitamin
-Grapeseed extract
-Green Tea extract
-L-Lysine
-Beta Glucan
-Aceytl L-Carnitine
-Vitamin C
-Vitamin E
-Flax Seed Oil

Pretty long list, i'm hoping i can afford all of this, i'm not sure yet if not i will have to trim it and use what is most important i suppose

"Nah stay away from those DHT blockers they wont do much. Take a good multivatim ot stick with the hair nutrient tablets. " mmmmmmm ok?
If you are uncomfortable with finasteride use then that is understandable but remember that male pattern baldness is progressive and finasteride is really best at maintaining what you have and/or giving you a slight improvement. I am not trying scare you, just give you the facts. Also rememeber that even at 0.5 mg, studies indicate that finasteride helps to block DHT and thus battle hairloss.

if you get GNC multivitimin it'll take care of all those....

Yea the multivitamin that i have has most of those things too, but Immortal Hair claims that you need more milligrams than one multivitamin can provide for each. I know Propecia is the best, i'm just scared of its long term effects because i'll have to be on it for years because i'm so young, so right now i'm tryin to find any possible alternative for now if not then i will have no choice but to use it.

i was talking about the natural DHT blockers like shen min. I was not indicating DHT blockers as in finasteride.

re:

What is the difference between taking natural supplements that block DHT or taking a little pill that blocks DHT? Not to mention that none of the companies, that claim to naturally block DHT, provide any acceptable medical evidence that the product is effective. At least none that I have seen.
Many people have come here and decided that finasteride was not the right choice for them. Search around and check out their regimen.
BTW, I am concerned about short and long term sides but after researching finasteride and understanding the risks/rewards, I decided that it was the right choice FOR ME and not necessarily anyone else. That's cool that you do not think the cost/benefit is worth it for you, I just hope you made an educated decision.
Based on my time here, I would say that minoxidil and spironolactone are the best topicals to battle male pattern baldness, minoxidil does nothing to battle DHT and I am not sure if spironolactone has an effect.
Good luck.
