The Bdd Kid Returns. Norwood Update Please?

Tried staying off here for as long as I possibly could. Think I lasted something like 2-3 months which I think is very good. Anyway, I recently got my haircut and couldn’t help but notice that my hair looked like f*****g dog sh*t today. There’s a patch of my hair on the left side of the hairline which looks like it could be thinning? Can’t tell if my hairline is maturing or not either. Noted that i’ve been experiencing slow recession for 5, maybe 6 years now. Looked back at pictures of myself from high school and noted thinner hair in the corners from ages 13/14 though I can’t tell if they’re just naturally thinner or not. I’m 20, soon to be 21 but it still seems to be receding a little even now. Is it really a ‘mature’ hairline as those say or slow onset of male pattern baldness kicking in?

Would you recommend starting finasteride soon? I want to be able to hold it off for as long as possible because that sh*t is realistically poison to your body. I cba with minoxidil as it’s too much maintenance and I’m not that bothered about regrowth, just want to maintain what I have until something better comes out.

Don’t know if this helps or if it’s actually of any relevance but this is my father’s hairline at 45.

Wow, your father has a really great hairline.

Not that yours is bad, but I don't think it's going to be as dense as
his when you reach his age.

That isn't a mature hairline. A "mature hairline" is a centimeter, and it happens
when you first start going through puberty (some guys never get any recession at all,
and maintain a Norwood "zero").

I mean, for now could this recession just be me inheriting my fathers hairline? I’m aware that this doesn’t make me safe from balding, I could still recede and thin in later life but my concern is right now.

There's different types of mature hairlines. Look at the one below, clearly a full head but that's way more than a cm of recession and more than OP has.

Because male pattern baldness is more commonly inherited from the maternal side. My hair is like my grandmothers who has stone cold norwood 6 on her side so I care

Your call to start finasteride or not, but at least get a trichoscopy if you want to be sure of it

And post a pic of your hairline as a kid, before puberty, you must compare.
