im 19 years old and lately ive noticed(as my friends pointed it out) that my temples seem to be receding quite a bit. I think my hairline has always been like this i just am now taking more notice of it. I have thick hair everywhere else and cant imagine losing it. i dont seem to lose any hair when styling or running my hands through it or having a shower. My dad, his brother and his dad were all bald, however my mums side nobody is bald, and i seem to have my mums hair, as my dads hair was black and not as thick as mine or so he says. So my question is my hair receding or is my hairline maturing.

Yeah male pattern baldness.
And you're only 19, so it doesn't look good.

I would plan to atleast try finasteride or minoxidil in a year or two depending on the progression. Make sure to research both options beforehand, because they are far from perfect or safe solutions. I think we have pinned thread dedicated to explaining Minoxidil and Finasteride.

If you can afford it I would just go see a hair transplant Doctor or derm that knows about hair loss and get their opinion. It beats guessing, and pictures will never match a real life consultation. Also if its male pattern baldness no one on here can write you the script for finasteride if you need it anyways. You have to go either way

That's more or less what my hairline looked like when I was 19.

I am 27 now and I am just noticing I have thinned a lot since, starting to get a balding/thinning spot on crown.

You're probably fine for a couple years. Go see a derm if it's really bothering you, your family will tell you "you're not going bald are you crazy!?"

Agreed !!
Don't listen to your family but take them as a reference of your genes. If you have family history of male pattern baldness it's probably time to take action. And trust your own judgment. That's what I did when I was about the same as your age and noticed the same thing. No you're not crazy lol.

Dont let the guys on here make u think you will go bald within a year. I first was worried about hairloss at 18, in hindsight I probably did have a tiny bit of recession. At the age of 27 I finally got on finasteride and my hairline is basically identical to what it was at 18. The reality is, the vast majority of Caucasian men have some form of male pattern baldness and although its hard to believe at ur young age, whether you call it a mature hairline or slow recession it is something that most of us go through and it really isn't that bad assuming its jut that, slow loss of the frontal portion which is extremely common. And hey, even if you don't get on meds, theres a chance you will never even recede further. Looking at my dads pictures when he was 30 he had some temple recession, he is now 65 and his hair is still fantastic...absolutely zero crown loss and although he has some frontal loss noone would ever consider him bald. I'd see a Doctor to confirm but you hair looks within the realms of normalcy IMO.

male pattern baldness, and don't listen to this wizard up above.

His case is not suddenely an exception to where you will end up. Hair loss is progressive, and it gradually effects the entire scalp through a slow-fast process.

Best case scenario is get tested by a dermatologist to see where your final pattern is through a miniaturization tricho test. Hop on medication, and maintain.
