Should I wait a few days before discontinuing Propecia in order to start taking Avodart? What daily dosage of Avodart should I be taking? I have heard that 2.5mg is optimal. If so how much should i expect to pay for avodart a month?

Finally, I just had a hair transplant last Dec 8th. Would it be advisable to wait to switch to Avodart until my grafts start to grow in ( no grow seen yet )?

Many thanks for your help!!

I would use 5 mg finasteride a day for at least 3 months, then switch to 0.5 mg dutasteride if I didn't experience any side effects.

Thanks for writing Enden. I'm not sure I understand you advice. I've been on finasteride for years but it seems to not be working much anymore. Now I want to switch to Avodart to see if that will be any better. Do I need to taper off the finasteride gradually or can I quit cold turkey and just start taking Avodart? Thanks for your help.

5 mg finasteride is a little more potent than 1 mg finasteride. The risk of side effects will be increased. 0.5 mg dutasteride is a lot more potent than 5 mg finasteride, that's why I suggested using Proscar for a while. Just quit finasteride and start taking dutasteride the day after. I wouldn't use more than 0.5 mg a day. That's the dose for BPH.
