switching from finasteride to dutasteride and increased hairloss

I have tried dutasteride 2 times before, but lost hair on it and therefore returned to finasteride. Could it be that the swith from finasteride to dutasteride actually increases testosterone which then affects hairloss? Would it be better to slowly increase the dutasteride dosage and get off the finasteride gradually? So, what if I start with taking dutasteride once a week, stay on the finasteride and then increase dutasteride to twice a week etc?

Testosterone does not cause hair loss. If that were the case almost every man would be bald. It's the alpha enzyme that converts the testosterone into something that (some) follicles are sensitive to and that's why some people go bald.

Testosterone activates the androgen receptor like DHT, just not as strongly. I feel that the androgenic stimulation from testosterone _does_ contribute to balding, although (again) not as strongly as DHT. Men whose hair follicles aren't sensitive enough in general to androgens don't have to worry about either sex hormone, especially testosterone, but that doesn't mean that testosterone isn't also a bad influence on scalp hair (in general).
