Switching from 5% to 2% minoxidil

Has anyone started treatment on 5% and "downgraded" to 2% afterwards?

I have been on 5% for 3 weeks now and the flaking is terrible. Nizoral hasn't helped so far but I hope it will eventually. But when my bottles are used up, I am thinking about switching to 2%.

Any adverse effects from doing that? Would the treatment be less effective?

Thanks.

Nizoral doesn't do anything for me to suppress the flakiness I get from Rogaine. You may want to look into scalp moisturizers.

If you decide to go to Rogaine 2%, you shouldn't notice any sheds from the SWITCH, but the 2% will be less effective than the 5%. You may or may not see adverse effects. I would recommend using Rogaine 5% once a day rather than 2%. I think 2% twice a day is supposed to be about as affective as 5% once a day.

What type of rogaine are you using? Have you tried the foam? Also, switching to 2% is really not a great idea as 5% is mucho better then 2% which I believe was created for women who are more sensitive to rogaine side effects.

I am using generic minoxidil. It cost a lot less than Rogaine.

I am a student right now, so cant afford the Rogaine until I graduate and get a job

Can anyone recommend a good scalp moisturizer? And do I have to wait 4 hrs after applying Minoxidil to put the moisturizer on my scalp?

tnx

I tend to agree with all that; however, I also think that a 2 1/2 mL dose of 2% Rogaine is probably more effective than a 1 mL dose of 5% Rogaine.

Want to share my progress.

I have now been on 5% generic minoxidil for more than 6 months. I have noticed that I've regrown some hair in the area right around the center of the top of my head. The very center still is about the same as before treatment, so I guess it's too late for those follicles to rejuvenate, but at least it did restore SOME hair. Now I can kind of brush hair over my semi-bald spot and it's not noticeable at all, whereas before it was visible on close inspection.

Hopefully it's worked for anyone reading this too.

if you are using kirkland minoxidil this explains the flaking!

Try dr lees 5%, it dries within minutes and leaves no flakes. will not affect your day what so ever!
