"Super Responders" - Someone tell me how this is possible?

Hello again everyone,

There is no doubt that some people are super-responders to Minoxidil. If you browse through the success stories forum, there are several people that have regrown substantial amounts of hair at the crown and temples within a few months. However the "average" responder (if there is such a thing) is expected to see results only around month six, and some not until a year or even later than that.

My question is, how is it possible to be a super-responder? There might not even be an answer to this, but it just doesn't make sense to me. I thought that the hair cycle is much slower than that. My understanding is that as hairs are shed during the telegen phase, rogaine makes them grow back thicker. However, hairs are in their anagen and telogen phases for months or years right? Also, isn't there supposed to be a shed or do some people just not shed?

I seem to be missing something, but I'm just wondering how this is possible, and what it means for people who are expecting results. Do earlier results mean more results later?

Has anyone ever heard of someone who saw no results for six months to a year, but then saw dramatic results?

Good luck to everybody.

Hair loss has a lot of things going on, and if someone happens to be losing mainly through a path that minoxidil affects, then it will be a huge positive.

I think minoxidil turns your follicles to anagen immediately, so if the damage to the follicle isn't severe and your loss is recent you have a good chance to see early results. The long term results can't be predicted unless you try, it depends on your genetics, but for the most existing treatments, results plateaus after 1-2 yrs regerding regrowth. After that you can expect only maintenance or losing ground at a slow pace.

I have been refered to by that nomenclature, and I would figure youth and recent loss figure into it (im, 22 and started losing at 19) insofar as the follicles will be less damaged/ body has a greater ability for faster regeneration, but i really don't know.

On the flip side, most 'super-responders' were my age or younger and therefore have had to suffer hairloss and its social effects at a far younger age, (none of my peers are losing theirs) so it's swings and roundabouts, to a certain extent.

But f*** it, I'm not a scientist, and most of them don't know either.

How have you responded Closert?
