Hi,

In the last few weeks i have noticed that my hair on top is beginning to get thinner. However, this coincides with a terrible burning/red scalp i have been getting that nothing seems to cure!!
the burning/red/sore scalp has been getting better, then it will flare up again...the last two times after using some coal tar shampoo (T-Gel), and selsun shampoo.
I have been to the doctor who had prescribed two different steroid creams (one was apparently alcohol based), he has also taken a blood test for thyroid and that came back clear.
I have also been to a tricologist, who pretty much laughed at me and told me my hair was fine and healthy after looking through his microscope.
I have no real balding in the family. My mums dad had a full head of hair till the day he died (76 y/o), and my dad has a pretty good head of hair for a 56 y/o....only slightly receeded and a thin crown.
My crown is fine and hasnt thinned, and my hairline hasnt changed since i was 18 (i am 25 now). It just seems to be right on the top (the vertex i think they call it).
My shedding can vary from 50 a day up to 200 a day (i wash hair everyday), and at the moment have enough hair for anyone else to notice, but if i centre parted my hair, the parting would be wider than it was a couple of months ago!

So my question is really, if anyone thinks the symptoms above point to male pattern baldness or whether you guys in the know think it is something different. Please let me know anything you think may help me as this is getting me really down.
If it is male pattern baldness i would like to know as i can then try and do something to try and keep the hair i have!

Please, please help!!
Thanks

You need to see a dermatologist who specializes in hair. Insist on a blood test. DHT, test, andro, DHEA, and DHEA-S. Make him give and explain to you his diagnosis. If you are not satisfied, find another physician.

Frankly, I do not think it would be best to get advice from a forum. Forums are good places to commiserate. They are not a good place to get medical advice.
