Has anyone considered dosing themselves with DGLA as well? Regardless of how much weight you place in Brotzu's claim that DGLA only works in conjunction with s-equol, at the very least, we know for a fact that DGLA is a PGE1 precursor. Would anyone be wiling to consider adding DGLA to their minoxidil and trying it out? Preferably people who are already well into a minoxidil-only course so that any changes can be noted.

@Edwin, perhaps you could comment on an appropriate vehicle to use, if needed? Minoxidil suphate is obviously a salt, so I don't know if typically an aqueous vehicle is used or what. But DGLA is well under 500 daltons, which is the rule-of-thumb upper limit for transdermal delivery, so I imagine that as long as you can get minoxidil and DGLA to dissolve reasonably well in a vehicle, you will be ok.

DGLA should be relatively benign.

It can be found from various suppliers under the name cis,cis,cis-8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acid, or all cis -8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acid.

Here is an example supplier:http://www.tcichemicals.com/eshop/e...e=UTF-8&ud=1&exclude_apps=1&site=en_us&mode=0

Is there any interest in carrying out this experiment?

According to Brotzu, DGLA's effect should be much stronger. So why don't we try it out, is all I am saying.

All due respect to the doctor but a couple of things he has said have been well off for me to take his claims at face value. Regarding DGLA, he talks about vasodilation compared to minoxidil but we know that vasodilation is n't what makes hair grow as there are other more potent vasodilators out there that don't cause hair growth. There was also a quote regarding S-Equol where he talks about 5ar inhibition when it does no such thing.

I'm sure his lotion works to an extent and would probably be helpful for people that do not respond to minoxidil but I doubt that it's going to be the miracle cure that people seem to be pinning their hopes too.

Besides all of the above, DGLA is used as a substitute for PGE1 and there are people who have tried PGE1 and got minimal hair growth from it.

Yeah I understand what you are saying, but as I mentioned in the original post, it is simply an experiment. Every other post on this forum is about trying some new random things, and well, DGLA wouldn't be a half bad thing to try. As far as people not getting results from PGE1 goes, take it as you may, but Brotzu reported rapid oxidation of PGE1, which is one of the reasons he switched to DGLA also, so perhaps those who tried PGE1 did not account for the degradation.

I am very aware of Brotzu's work as well as the questionable statements that he has made, but that DGLA is a precursor to PGE1 is undeniable, and to me it seems reasonable to believe that it may enhance PGE1 levels in the scalp. Whether or not it would produce results...well I have no idea. It just seems that this experiment may find a place in the long list of things people on here want to try, is all.
