Anyone here takes any sugar subtitute?

Which one?

It looks that all sugar subtitutes could have very scary side effects according to this FDA page: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/fdsugar.html

I am taking Aspartame right now. I switched from Ciclamate because I heard it could have side effects, but now I see Aspartame is a risk too!

What to do?

Even if take a diet cola, it has sugar substitutes. Scary!!

Simply dont eat sugar.

That's a tall order, sugar is addictive. I've been trying to get myself off sugar using a substitiute called Hermesetas. It tastes foul but I'm hoping to go from that to no sugar. All these freaking insulin spikes... :roll:

I always eat a lot of fruit, IBM.

A week now without table or granulated sugar and my usually rapid heartbeat has diminished to a more steady rate. Also I feel more alert, clear-headed. Think I'll stay off it.

Agave necter is the sh*t (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agave_syrup):

* very low glycemic index rating (19) approximately 1/3 the glycemic index of sugar
* sweeter than sugar so you need less
* comes from a cactus

There are other options too (splenda, Stevia, etc)

Aee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index if you don't know what that is.

Google "sugar alternatives" there is TONS of info on this stuff out there.

Aspartame is scary stuff, IMO. The aspartic acid in aspartame is an excitatory neurotransmitter which may cause brain lesions and cell death. This is not because it isn't found in the diet (it is in almost all protein foods), it is that taking apartame causes a faster than norma spike in aspartic acid levels that cross the blood brain barrier. Just food for though, haha.
