Hello, this is my first time on this board so hope I don't break any rules. I'm 19 y/o and over the last six weeks I've noticed very aggressive shedding which has led to my hair becoming very thin. Here are some photos:
Photos:
You can see from the photo's that the front is thinning pretty badly, though the recession at my temples doesn't seem too bad. I also have a burning sensation all over my scalp which is the most intense around the crown.
I shed roughly 100 - 300 hairs a day and most are very thin/fine with no root at the bottom.
The shed seems to correlate to when I switched my testosterone replacement therapy medication from Sustanon, a blend of four different testosterone esters, to testosterone enanthate. The active ingredient is the same as is the dose so this could just be a coincidence. I've been on TRT for over a year but only noticed shedding/thinning this past month or so.
I have other potential ideas as to why my hair is thinning such as diet, thyroid/hormones in general and poor upkeep, I'm pretty sure my balding is androgenic though so I'm not getting my hopes up.
This is making me incredibly anxious to the point of panic attacks because of how bad I know I'll look without hair. I have no jawline, a very large/deformed skull and can't grow facial hair - not a good combination for a balding 19 y/o. I'm supposed to be going to university in September but if my hair continues to thin and becomes apparent I don't think I could handle the anxiety of talking to new people with a bald head at 20.
I'm trying to get my GP (UK based) to refer me to a dermatologist but I'm not sure if they will. I've already tried 5% minoxidil at the recommended dose and it absorbed systematically which gave me palpitations because my blood pressure dropped too low.
I'm considering finasteride but obviously the side effects scare me shitless. I know only 2% of users experience them but generally speaking if a side effect is listed for a medication I usually experience it. Being on TRT is another road block, I've had my protocol chopped and changed since starting last April and as a result have still not found the right dose. This means that I still get regular erectile dysfunction and bouts of low libido, and would not be able to determine if it was being caused by finasteride, trt or a combination of the two should I start.
Does anyone have any suggestions for my current situation? My shedding is very aggressive so I need to act fast, though I'm not sure what to do. Thanks in advance.
