I started to lose my hair two years ago, I am still in my early twenties. This time last year I was a NW3 with balding on crown too.

I started taking 1.25mg generic finasteride a day along with rogaine foam once a day last September. The results were shocking! regrowth started in the first couple weeks. It was especially good on my crown but my hair did star to fill in on my temples too! As summer approached (May) I noticed that my regrowth came to a halt that is when my shed began.

I hadnt had a shed prior to that and expected it to last a few weeks but it literally last the whole summer. I am still quite keen to know whether there is some correlation between hair growth/loss and summer/heat as my hair seemed to thin drastically as the weather got hotter. I was close to quitting everything at one point but I read so many posts on forums which stated the best thing to do is to hang in there, fight through it. That's what I done.

My doctor also recommend I up the dosage of finasteride to 3mg a day which I did. My shed came to a halt about 3 weeks ago (as autumn began) and once again I started to experience rapid regrowth. I think that maybe while I was shedding hair, I was growing new ones at the same time but they have only started to get darker and thicker over the past few weeks. I am not to sure whether the change from shed to regrowth was due to increasing my finasteride dosage, the change in season or a combination of the two!

I would say my hair is currently about 70% better than it was this time 2 years ago, I have experienced slight regrowth on temples but my hairline is still clearly receding... which I can deal with! The main regrowth has definitely been crown which was what was originally the hardest to deal with! I think that, if my regrowth continues at this pace, my crown will have gone from a NW3 to NW1 by christmas.

I know it sucks to lose hair, Im only 21 and im having to deal with it already! I think that everybodys hair reacts differently to treatments, for me I didnt experience a shed for a while but when it did come it lasted for 5 months and hit HARD! now its over though the regrowth I am experiencing is stronger than ever befote. STICK IN THERE, even when it gets tough!

Unless you are truly willing to accept hair loss, its always worth trying to fight it.

Best of luck to everyone.

Congrats, that's really great to hear! I've been on propecia for only 2.5 months and the sheds have really thinned out my hair. It's good to know that there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Also, when you first realised you were losing hair, did you notice the receding temples or just general thinning because for me is was the thinning (I'm just 20 by the way)?

Apologies for the late reply. My hairline has always been naturally receded and for this reason it doesnt really bother me. I first realised I had a problem when I used two mirrors to get a good look at the back of my head and noticed a penny shaped thin patch on the grown which gradually expanded.

This is great to hear bro. This just gives me another reason to add minoxidil to my regimen. I've been on propecia for the past 5 months, still shedding but I've got a ton load of vellus hairs growing on my temples, thinking of getting some minoxidil by the next week so that I can try to get them to thicken. It sucks to lose hair at a young age. I started losing my hair two years ago too at the age of 18.

You say that your temples still look like they're receding but I'm guessing they've stopped receding.
