Strange question about going to the doctor.

Hi there,

I recently noticed that I am beginning to lose my hair. I am an extremely self-conscious person, so my first reaction was utter panic and immediate depression.

After a little while, I started to accept it and deny it (I know, a contradiction of sorts), reminding myself that there are surgical alternatives that can take place later in life.

I also have social anxiety disorder, which is not currently being treated. Recently I decided it was probably best to start getting treated for my social anxiety disorder since it has been debilitating for many years.

However, I don't have a doctor, nor do I have insurance. I don't think I've ever had a physical.

When I mentioned it to my parents, they immediately tried to scare me by telling me I may have to take a physical.

I figured if I could get myself to go to the doctor for social anxiety disorder (my #1 priority), I would also ask for Proscar and cut it up because it's cheaper.

Asking someone with SA to take a physical is like asking someone with an irrational fear of heights to jump out of an airplane.

Anyway, when you went in to ask for Propecia or Proscar, were you required to take a physical?

I am also curious because I know that that Proscar was originally developed to treat an enlarged prostate. Does this mean they are also going to give me a prostate exam? I'm only 20- I'm really too young for that, I think, and that would kill me. Knowing the other things they are going to do is frightening enough (enough to actually make me not go to the doctor), but I'd like to know exactly what they are going to do.

I know this is an extremely strange question, but tell me your experience. I don't remember ever having a physical, but I've always been painfully shy, and that has only tripled over the years.

Please tell me your experiences and try to help me figure out what is going to happen. I'm scared to death of going bald and that would just be detrimental to my life. :(

Thanks.

Also, what happens when you need to renew your prescription? Do you have to go back to the doctor and have another physical?

Whew. Okay.

A doctor is likely not going to be aware that Proscar is the same drug as Propecia. Some know, most don't. Tell him that it's just a cheaper method of treating hairloss - show him the clinical data and hope he's willing to write you an Rx.

More on point: He will not have to check your prostate and you certainly do NOT need a physical when asking for a hair loss treatment. I would not consent to one if the nature of the appointment was to ask for Finasteride.

Also, you should know that Finasteride is available online. Many users on this forum, including yours truly, order online and bypass doctors entirely. We have our various reasons. I use generic Finasteride from India. Understandably, getting drugs in the mail from India is not everyone's cup of tea. There are other sites that ship Merck Proscar, but they are generally more expensive.

This is our section regarding Finasteride online:

Personally, I use this site:

I've ordered from them and confirm that they deliver and that the product is legitimate.

I also suggest you go and get that social anxiety thing taken care of. Good luck and please post any additional questions here.
