Hey guys
Cliche- long time viewer, first time poster.
Just wanted to first of all say thanks to all contributors on this board as it's helped me for quite a few years.
Quick run-down:
First noticed thinning in the crown at around the age of 22- not bad, but slight (27 now). Also have receeding hairline, but to me its not that bad.
Got sucked into the whole home laser therapy for a good year.
Tried rogaine but got terrible headaches and heart-palpitations.
Prescribed Proscar, cut into quarters and took every second day. so 1.25mg every other day.
Been on proscar now for 2 years with no real side effects apart from at times, watery semen. I would say some weight gain and slight tenderness in the nipples, and until recently serve brain-fog- which on some days was fine, but other days would make me moody, short tempered, lazy! and agitated. I always put this down to something else, not caused by proscar.
I only noticed how bad the brain fog was, after I stopped for 10 days due to my doctor being booked out and my prescription running out.
Off it for those 10 days, I had energy to do things again like I hadn't experienced in a very long time!. The 3 days after I commenced again, thats when I knew what was causing the brain fog and laziness.
It's hard for me to say that proscar has slowed my hairloss as I have over that period of time, continued to thin on the crown. I guess its stopped the aggressiveness that could have potentially happened if I wasn't on the drug. Even when I was using the laser therapy, I would say I thinned at the same rate I have now whilst on proscar.
My mother has 6 brothers and all of them have variant ranges of hairloss. From slight thinning on the crown with receeding hairlines to just the one with complete loss.
I've been off it now for 1 week and my energy levels have returned and I can focus at work. I have my good days where I feel some-what liberated that I don't have to take those pills. But other days I get worried that what I have now, will disappear faster than anticipated.
My wife says that its not worth it, hair over health.
I guess I just wanted some other peoples experiences with stop/starting proscar/propecia/finasteride and if they noticed an increased rate of hairloss. And are also happy with their decision to move on from the drug.
Thanks
