stopping minoxidil?

i recently started to suspect that i might be losing hair and decided to try using minoxidil, and nothing else, as a preventive measure. i've been using it for 2-3 months and am considering stopping-i don't really see a difference and the itchy scalp (even with nizoral shampoo) is driving me crazy. so i was wondering-could stopping minoxidil after just using it for a few months be bad? i'm just concerned because this guy (http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... hp?t=18617) says he regrets using minoxidil, thinking that it made his hair worse in the time he did use it. and i couldn't other posts about similar situations.

thanks in advance.[/url]

Hi,

2-3 months is NOT enough time to see results. give it more time. Are you using it TWICE a day or only once?
What product are you using?? you might be allergic to propylen glycol....applying minoxidil shouldn't irritate the scalp that much unless you're allergic to the ingredients. Try Dr. lee's minoxidil w/o Propylen glycol (http://www.xandrox.com).

Good luck.

Try Dr Lee's product 500 (Standard minoxidil) it dries in ten minutes and contains much less PPG, PPG is usually the main cause of irritation and not the minoxidil itself.

Try the product 500 first and see if you get on with it, Dr Lee also does a PPG free formula with no PPG but this formula take as long as rogaine to dry.

I was the one who posted that post you are talking about jpolson..!
Well, i think it made may hair at teples a LITTLE worse... but i'm also sure, it would have been better again if i had kept on with the minoxidil...! but i couldt take it anymore... it was taking to much of my time and mind.... and because it's not supposed to work as well on temples i just quit it now, so i wont have to quit it after a year and have a MEGA chok, when i shed a lot of hair afterwards....! I'll save the minoxidil for a day where i need it more...!! When my crown starts to thin..

but if you can stand putting it on twice a day i think you should continue.....!!! give it a year... then quit if nothing has happened!

Im with you gultanden... i think minoxidil made my hairline worse so i stopped after 6 weeks because of both the aggressive shedding, and the absolute horrendous way it ruled my mind. The application twice a day and close analysis of my hairline wreaked havoc on my day to day life and mindset... not to mention the reduction in the quality of my hair...

Just know if you stick with it... you stick with it for ever! never lose sight of the fact that when you stop... you'll lose any hair it potentially grew anyway... a harsh reality.

And as far as Nizoral goes for re-growth, dont hold your breath... finasteride and minoxidil (unfortunately) are really the best two for re-growth... nizoral may or may not do much...
