I'm 40 yrs old and have been battling hairloss since age 17. Very strong balding genes.I have been on finasteride and minoxidil for almost 20 yrs with great success. I've been holding a norwood 3 for the last 10 years. The last 10 years I was quite a heavy drinker. Well, I stopped all alcohol on may 1st and had a huge shed 3-4 months later. Lost about a 1/2 of my hair. As of now, it has not recovered. Do you think the raised estrogen levels from drinking was helping my hair? I thought it was telogen effluvium, but it has been 7 months with no improvement.

Wow around 20 years of success! Any major change in diet can cause telogen effluvium which can last for months so I would give it a bit more time considering you were a heavy drinker for 10 years. Has anything else changed in your life recently and have you been consistent with your regimen? Post some pics of your hair so we can see what you're dealing with.

I have been consistent with my regimen and got really healthy. I've read that alcohol lowers testosterone and raises estrogen levels. Being an all day drinker all those years, was the low testosterone/high estrogen keeping my hairloss in check? As soon as I stopped the booze, I got a massive diffuse shed.
