Hey, I just started to go to the steam room at my gym for about 10-20 mintues and I noticed that my i could feel my scalp pulsating. Like all the blood was circultating around there. Do you think that getting daily steams would be beneficial to my hair growth? I have dandruff and clogged pores in my scalp. How does steam get rid of it, and how does it actually clean the skin? Thanks.

Thats a good Idea actually... when you are in a steam room and the heat gets to your pours it actually extracts them and helps clear them... Must be good for the scalp.

Yep, that does sound like a good idea. Heat of course will bring the blood to the surface and thus help to throw off impurities that are close to the surface. I wouldn't overdo it though:) Take it in stride.

I don't believe it will help. Hairloss is not a cause of bad circulation, otherwise head massages would be the answer and we would all be happy to abandon the ugly solution and systemic pills.
On the contrary, think about it - if DHT is the culprit and it flows in the blood stream then increased circulation will flow MORE dht to the scalp area. So as a matter of fact it might make hairloss worse!!

That's my opinion anyway.

If this is your argument, then exercises, sweating, anything that causes an increase in blood pressure and circulation would be bad for hair. In my opinion, the pressence or absence of DHT will be around your hair follicles is pretty much constant regarldess of the amount of circulation. The difference is, the more circulation you have around the surrounding areas, the more nutrients the hair has to feed on and thus healthier hair. Also, the benefits of steam include loosening of sebum within the hair follicles. Blocked pores IS a cause of hair loss/ hair minituraization. DHT is concentrated in sebum, and if it remains in the pore, then DHT accululates in the pore. Clearing the proes allows a flow of DHT out of the system, allows topical growth stimulators DHT inhibitors etc to work better. Bottom line, steaming is healthy for your hair and your health.

i have a couner argument.
I believe that hotter waer is bad for the scalp. It causes irritation.
In additino, if DHT attacking follicle is a chemical reaction. The rate is likely to increase by exposing the scalp to such a hot temperature.

Personally I have shed lesser amount while using colder water compared to the warmer one.
If the reaction is exothermic, even if the water temperature is 50 degree Celcius, inside your scalp the temperature can be much more than that.

update

well i've been steaming for about 4 days, 10-20 min and I love it. I can sleep better, circulation in my body seems better and i've lost some weight. Also, my hair, i used to have a really itchy scalp, but now, it's pretty much gone. dandruff is virtyally gone, no more clogged pores, and my scalp doesn breakout anymore. I used to get bad breakouts on my sclap that would be real painful. my skin in general is much clearer, complextion is better. I'm telling you, if you just want to look better and feel better, try the steam room. As for it progressing baldness due to the heat, I have a counter argument. DHT and the hair follicles does not go by a chemical reaction. DHT simply attaches to the hair follicles and shrinks them by suffocating the follicle from nutrients. Increasing blood flow to the scalp allows more nutrients to flow to the follicles. I don't know, maybe it won't help with my hair, but it can't hurt is the point.
