Starting Avodart tomorrow/ will update

Hi All,

My hair has become my obsession, I have already spent around 15,000 on it(Going on and off treatments and buying into snake oil treatments, and will soon spend another 10,000 for a hair transplant, oh well there goes my retirement fund.

I Just got my prescription for avodart and will be starting it tomorrow.

I tried propecia for 5 months and alot of sides. My nuts always felt like someone kicked them the day before, my skin was super dry and my sex drive was sh*t. It literally killed my sex drive and erection so bad that I could not stay hard even after popping some v****. Lets just say that my now ex-girlfriend was not pleased with me.

To give you some stats I am 26, a NW2, and been suffering from diffuse thinning since age 21. At 21 I shed 150 hairs a day, at age 26 before propecia it was 100 hairs a day, after 5 months on propecia it is 70 hairs a day.

To be honest some of the sides you guys have had on this board with avo scare the hell out of me, but I am desperate to try and save my hair, actually more like obssessed with saving my hair. I'll let you how the avodart affects me, and post some pics and updates. I just hope I don't get any sides from avo, if I do I am sh*t out of luck and will have to face my impending baldness.

Goodluck, my friend.

I, too, experienced awful sexual side effects (impotence, loss of libido) on finasteride therapy. Since switching to dutasteride, I've experienced no side effects (knocking on wood). In my opinion, it's more promising than Propecia is.

I'm only 20, and use Avodart daily. No problems.

Goodluck, and keep us updated.

First update, after taking it for the first time today on an empty stomach I had a headache that lasted for 4 hours. Tomorrow I'll take it with a meal.

Does anyone know a free site to post some pics?

Hey Aplunk, thanks for the kind words. How long did it take you to get over the sexual side effects for propecia? I stopped taking it for a week but I still have all the sexual side effects... Also did you start taking avodart as soon as you stopped propecia?

Thanks

I stopped Propecia on Dec. 2, 2005.

I began Avodart on Dec. 5, 2005.

The side effects vanished within 1 or 2 weeks.

Thought I would give an update of how things are going since I started Avodart and stopped Propecia. (started Avo May 16th, stopped Propecia May 5th)

Side effects from Propecia and progress:
-Feeling that nuts got kicked in - Gone
-Could not get an erection if my life depended on it - Erection is much better now but still suffering from some limpage
-Sex Drive was dead - Still suffering from this one Sex drive might be a little better
-No morning Wood ever - Having some morning wood now but it is really soft...
-Dry skin - Skin still pretty dry

Overall things are going well so far, the only side effect I've noticed from Avo is a mild headache for 1hour after taking the pill. Also I have dreams every night now, when I used to have none so thats not really a side effect.

Shedding seems to have picked up again - now shedding 100 hairs a day, and alot of small 1/2 inch hairs are falling out from my sideburns or forehead region. This is probably because I stopped taking rogaine a couple weeks ago.

Age 26, May 03. About the time I stopped both Propecia and Rogaine. You are probably asking why am I stopping rogaine after getting results from it. The reason why is I have a hairtransplant scheduled for July, and was told that I have to stop using minixodil 3 months prior to the transplant.

This is really interesting.
Many people say duta is experimental and it' s pretty dangerous to try an experimental medicine.
Anyway if it has the same effects on hair anyone can always try it and get back to fina if duta side-effects are worst on him.

I don't get it...

If you will have a hairtransplant done, why are you taking AVODART NON FDA APPROVED DRUG?

JUST CRAZY.

Second, why are you gonna have a hairtransplant done, if you have a FULL HEAD OF HAIR??..

Third, your nickname says a lot of things, it's very precise, like you have been reading alot about this disease. "genetically ungifted"

Seriously, like a few guys in this forum, I think your problem is in not in your hair. Have seen this before. It's not a hairloss problem. You have some initial thinning and you get on Avodart and you will have a hairtransplant done. Great.

I was told by my hair transplant clinic if I don't take avodart or propecia I will be in for another hair transplant in 5 years. Propecia gave me some nasty sexual side effects so I have to at least give avodart a try.

I know my hair is in okday shape right now, but it is no where near full, if I put on gel or go under a bright light you can easily see my scalp. I have lost a ton of volume in a short amount of time, if I don't stop my hair from falling out, I am screwed. Did you see this pic? This is what I have to look at every time I towel dry my hair and style it.

I thought my nickname was funny, don't take it to seriously its a joke at myself

I know that I am obsessed with my hair, and my obsession has become worse over time. Every time I look in the mirror it drives me insane. If this hair transplant and avo can help me get over this obsession then it is a small price to pay.

What happen to that picture?

I see that picture myself, 3 or 4 times a day.. And what?

You have a FULL HEAD OF HAIR.

That's why Serious Hairtransplant clinics, dont' advice you to go for a hairtransplant if you are under 35 OR of your hairloss has not stabilized OR if you still have a massive amount of hair like yours.

Because, even if you get on a hairtransplant with that massive amount of hair, when you lose what is left, you will look really bad.

However, I see you are deseperate, and you will take any option, to look a little better in the long term. It's your body and you can make what you want with it. I just say what I see. You don't even know if the drug will keep the hair that is left, because you haven't been on it for at least 1 year. So, I think you ned some serious advices from the Big guys in this fourm.

You have never been on proven treatments for at leats 1 year, to see if you can regrow hair.

I hope some of the big guys in the forum, can advice this guy.
