Splitting 1mg Propecia Pills To 0.5mg

Hi guys,
I want to take 0.5mg doses instead of 1mg due to sides. However, looking at the doctors note, and leaflet that came with the medicine, it clearly states to NOT 'split' or 'crush' the pill, (its generic finasteride)
Do you guys that split also have the same message and just ignore it? Or is it unsafe to split them hence the message, if so why?

Also, other than a pill cutter, what methods do you use to split them in half?

I think the worry about splitting the pill comes from the hazard it may cause to females bearing a child. I split my propecia once and a while and take .5 but I also use brand name. I don't see why the finasteride wouldn't be evenly distributed in 1 pill though, whether it's generic or not.
