From all the reading I've done so far and I'm a newbie at this, so I might be wrong, is that the general consensus is that topical spironolactone doesn't really do diddly squat for hair growth. spironolactone is a powerful anti-androgen that needs to be systemic, i.e. taken oral and in sufficiently high enough levels to nuke testosterone production and hence also DHT production before it might offer a significant contribution to hair growth and follicle recovery. At such levels, it will also make a male sterile, usually permanently (chemical castration), and foster the growth of breasts. That's why unless you are a transgender woman and/or intentionally desire to feminize your body for whatever purpose, do not even consider taking oral spironolactone. Topical spironolactone can also carry some risk of becoming systemic too.
