Whether you use it once or twice a day, how is the minoxidil/spironolactone combo working for you?

It's been working fine thus far. Definitely regrowing hair on my temples, which is basically all I'm using it on. Only thing though is that my left temple is regrowing hair at a faster rate than my right temple. But the right temple is regrowing though. At least thats what seems to be happening. I've only been using minoxidil since early December, and I started with the Foam maybe 3 weeks ago. Then added the 5% spironolactone cream and Nizoral 2% to my regimen maybe 2 weeks ago. The only other thing I plan on adjusting is making a switch to genhair's version of the 5% spironolactone cream.

How has it been working for you? As I just noticed you are on a similar regimen.

It's been working well for me. I only use each once a day at night. With my lifestyle, there is no way I could do it twice.

I wish the minoxidil/spironolactone users would speak up more.

Could anyone else using spironolactone please comment? :D

How should I apply spironolactone cream with minoxidil foam? Would I follow the same rules when it comes to liquid minoxidil (minoxidil first, wait 10 minutes, then add spironolactone)?

Same rule.

Apply the minoxidil foam first, and then sometime after it dries, apply the spironolactone cream. I usually apply the spironolactone cream about 45 minutes or an hour after I applied the minoxidil foam. I do this because I get practically little to no smell with this process. However, I noticed that when I used to apply the spironolactone cream lets say 10 or 15 minutes after applying the minoxidil foam -- I would get a noticeable funny smell.

@ Thinner It Goes

That's interesting you only apply both minoxidil and spironolactone once a day and getting results. I apply both twice a day.

Yeah... it's nothing amazing but still getting results. You have no problems with smell? That is the main thing holding me back from applying twice is the smell. It's very skunkish. Plus I would never have time to apply minoxidil and wait an hour to apply spironolactone in the morning. I usually get up and have to rush. How do you work it into your schedule?

Also... could I apply spironolactone on it's own in the morning? Would that do anything?

I tend to only have problems with the smell during the night. Since at night time, when I apply the minoxidil foam, there is still a little bit spironolactone left on scalp (hair) from applying it in the morning. And minoxidil and spironolactone produces doesnt smell well together. The smell isnt that bad though as long as I dont wear a hat.

I tend to try to apply it very early in the morning, and then again at night. You could apply spironolactone all on its own in the morning (but if you are applying it to just more than your temples, you could get a smell -- especially if you wear a hat). Which version of spironolactone are you using by the way? Dr. Lee's? Genhairs? Wholesalehairproducts?

I'm using Dr. Lee's 5%. I want to step it up but I really don't want the smell. I just thought the smell was from the combo of minoxidil and spironolactone. But then I wasn't sure if spironolactone would be effective on it's own.

Also, I apply spironolactone to the whole top of my head.

can anyone comment on my spironolactone dilemma? Once at night with minoxidil isn't gonna cut it?

and how can people only apply it to the hairline? you're just letting the rest of your hair go?

Well, I only apply it to my hairline (temples) because thats the area where I am experiencing hair loss. The rest of my head/hair is fine. It's only been the temples that has been receding (thinning) slowly for the past few years. So thats why I only apply spironolactone and minoxidil to the temples.

I cant imagine applying spironolactone to my entire scalp (hair) like you are doing though. Not only is that harder to apply, but it would cause more of an odor. So it's not really all that convenient. But if using spironolactone once a day and you are getting results -- then continue on. But with applying the minoxidil, there's no real excuse for not applying it twice a day due to the availability of Rogaine Foam. That thing dries in MINUTES and leaves no grease or mess, plus its the most effective minoxidil with a 85% success rate. Also, I'd argue that the foam is better for REGROWTH than spironolactone would be. spironolactone works better at halting hair loss, rather than regrowth.

I'm also wondering about the once a day thing. I would prefer to apply spironolactone and minoxidil only once a day (at night) instead of twice. I hate applying in the morning! Maybe I could apply twice a day for like a year or so and then move on to once a day?
